It’s hard to believe that we’ll soon be watching the ball drop in Times Square as we ring in 2015. It’s been a great year for Connect360, especially on the digital marketing front, where we had the opportunity to integrate some of the newest digital trends into online campaigns for our clients. As we get ready to toast to the New Year, we’ve gathered some of our top predictions for where we think digital marketing will take us in the year ahead.
Mobile is # 1
It’s no secret that mobile marketing is at an all time high, but the next year should prove to be the highpoint for mobile, as it’s become the leading digital platform. In fact, a recent study found that 60% of digital media time in the U.S. is spent on smartphones and tablets alone. With billions spent on mobile marketing in 2014, it’s likely we’ll see an even larger increase in mobile marketing budgets in the New Year.
As mobile hits its peak, (an estimated 220 million Americans will own a smartphone by 2018) there will also be the need to give users a higher quality mobile experience. Do you know how your client’s website translates to mobile? With Google now adding a “mobile-friendly” label to mobile search results there’s never been a better time to make sure your website includes a mobile-friendly design.
Social is still king
Social media continues to be one of the top tools for digital marketers, as many brands are utilizing social networks as a way to manage customer service, gain more insight into their customers and expand their online identity. Facebook is still the leading network, where 30 million small businesses currently own an active page. If you haven’t already done so, 2015 will be the year for many to embrace networks beyond Facebook and Twitter. Expanding to Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+ and more will help create a multi-platform online community for your brand, message or campaign.
The web has become a much more personalized place than it was 10 years ago and digital marketers are using this to their advantage now more than ever before. With the increased use of search intent and behavioral targeting technology, it’s never been easier to target relevant web users based on their personal preferences and behaviors. We expect 2015 to take the idea of a personalized web experience even further with concepts like pretargeting and even more optimized social media targeting. Nearly 1 million web pages are accessed using the “Login with Facebook” feature, giving digital marketers access to tons of data that can be used to target users in a more relevant way across a variety of different devices.
Visual Content is Key
90% of the information that comes to our brain is visual so it would be tough to argue the major impact that visual content has on the web. With a rise in platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr, visual content is more popular then ever before. Visually sharing your client’s message will be one of best ways to stand out online in 2015, and there are a number of ways to do it. From white board videos, to Instagram, to a custom Pinterest page, visual content can help target your audience in a much more engaging and exciting way. While the popularity of infographics has risen in recent years, the term “infographic” is still one of the top search queries on Google and infographics continue to be more popular on social networks when compared to traditional posts. There’s no doubt that visual content will continue to be a major player in online marketing in the New Year!
