Traditionally, folks use this time of year to catch up on cleaning. So why not take advantage of this time and do a little digital spring cleaning too? From updating your passwords to removing dead links from your campaign or company website, a digital spring cleanup can enhance security and can even bring more readers to your sites.
Just as people use daylight savings as a reminder to change batteries to their smoke detectors, you can use this time to give your passwords and login information a clean sweep. Convenient apps have simplified the process of updating and can help keep track of all your passwords. Besides, when it comes to security, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Don’t forget to also cleanup your campaign’s social media sites. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Google+, a neglected site can leave a negative impression. Develop and stick to a schedule for posting a steady stream of content. It will not only keep readers engaged but will also help your readership grow. Be sure to post regularly, but remember not to overdue it on the hashtags. Recent data showed that the more hashtags used in a Facebook post, the less engagement it receives. A good rule of thumb is to use one or two hashtags on posts across all social media. Too many hashtags and your message can get lost. Mobile advertising has been on a rapid rise for the past three years. This year alone, the mobile advertising market is set to grow by 75%. We’re all glued to our phones, in fact half of our time online is spent on smartphones and tablets. Use this to your advantage and make mobile part of your next campaign.
Take this time to comb through your site and make sure there aren’t any bad links. Broken or dead links will negatively affect your search engine page rank as well as your SEO. But more importantly it will also leave a bad taste with your readers. After all who likes hitting a link only to be faced with the dreaded “Page Not Found” error. Working links and up-to-date content will improve your site’s performance and will give visitors a better experience so they can keep coming back for more.
