New Analyses Reveal Strong Performance for Public Service Announcements

Nielsen recently released its annual ranking report of the top performing television public service announcements (PSAs) based on 2017 PSA airings. Through its encoding technology, Nielsen is an industry leader in tracking PSA usage by broadcast stations across the country.

Of the 1,500 PSAs tracked by Nielsen during all of 2017, Connect360 distributed six of the top 50 PSAs (12%) and 25 of the top 100 PSAs (25%). These results not only demonstrate the success of Connect360’s PSA distributions but they also underscore the incredible support that PSAs garner with stations. Each year, Connect360 analyzes its TV and radio PSA airings data to highlight performance and dispel common myths about overnight usage. Our 2017 PSA analysis confirms that the majority of PSA airings were during waking hours with many taking place in the top 50 media markets. All of this data points to the power of PSAs for generating donated media coverage and widespread awareness for a variety of messages.
