We are having some beautiful fall weather here in New York City. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to get outside and be active!
Here are some of our favorite ways to be outdoors and give back to our local community:
Run or walk a charity 5K. Use Runner’s World Race Finder to find an upcoming local charity race. If you prefer to run or bike on your own, log your miles in Charity Miles to raise money for popular organizations, such as: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, ASPCA, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Stand Up to Cancer, Autism Speaks, and more.
Volunteer with a new-to-you charity (or an old favorite). Here in New York, New York Cares can help you find an organization to volunteer for based on your location, the types of causes that you are committed to, and your schedule. Online resources such as Volunteer Match can help you find volunteer opportunities in other parts of the country, as well.
Volunteer to clean up the trails at your favorite park. We love our local parks. This time of year, we spend a lot of time enjoying them. But we don’t often think about how much parks maintenance is performed by volunteers who paint park benches, pull weeds, plant flowers, and track wildlife. If you’re interested in helping keep New York City’s parks beautiful, you can learn about volunteer opportunities on the NYC Parks website. There are even opportunities for large groups and corporate events.
What are some of the ways that you or your organization like to give back in the fall?
