Honoring and Helping Veterans on Veterans Day and Every Day

November 11 is Veterans Day. It is a profoundly important day where we get to honor veterans and give them the recognition they deserve.

On November 11, 1918, World War I came to an end. An armistice treaty was signed and our service members returned home from the war that was called at that time the “war to end all wars.” In 1926, Congress declared November 11 as Armistice Day, a day to honor the 407,000 Americans who died in service to their country. The name was later changed to Veterans Day to encourage us to honor all our nation’s veterans.

As we know, World War I did not end all wars. In every generation, Americans have been called to serve, and the rest of us are called to honor their service.

This year,  I would like to single out one particular organization to salute. Homes for our Troops. Homes For Our Troops is a 501 (c)(3) organization that has since 2004 been building specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 veterans, to help them rebuild their lives. In doing this, they have been reaching out to help veterans every day.
